Two goals in the first quarter allowed the Lions to get the lead early, before Mansfield kicked three in the second to take control of the game. While the Lions dominated a lot of the play, they were unable to convert on the scoreboard with scores tied deep in the final term. A point from Jack Radford with just 15 seconds to go was enough to get the Lions over the line. Taiten Thomas was tenacious in his attack on the footy and showed great leadership around the ground, well supported by Max McLean who worked tirelessly all day. Joel Durham continued his hot run of form with Jonty Mann also playing a strong game. Jack Davey made a strong return from injury, kicking a goal and bringing strong presence. Roles were reversed in the second, with Mansfield kicking seven goals straight before the Lions got back in the game in the penultimate quarter. Another seven goal quarter in the last allowed Mansfield to get away with a comfortable win. Inaccurate kicking cost the Lions with 30 scoring shots to Mansfield’s 24. Cooper Holdsworth-Rose played a fantastic game in defence, with James Wooster also showing plenty of leadership behind the ball in a strong game. The midfield combo of Nathan Beattie, Jack Murphy and Lachlan Giles worked hard all day, with Giles continuing to boost his output every week. The Lions now look forward to taking on Euroa at home. Cam Osmond won plenty of footy further up the ground while Joel Durham battled hard all day in the ruck without any respite. Sam Fuhrmeister took on a tough job down back and held his own, with Ollie Munro providing a target in the forward half of the ground. The Seymour Lions’ annual Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) fundraiser, Sarah’s Day, has raised a phenomenal $16,000 for people affected by breast cancer, ensuring they receive the very best care, treatment and support. The day is an opportunity for the Seymour community to remember all those impacted by cancer and to honour the memory of Sarah Locke, a long-time and passionate Lion who lost her battle with breast cancer in August 2022. More than 150 people bought tickets to enjoy an afternoon of camaraderie, community and laughter, with raffle prizes donated by a range of local businesses. $8,000 was raised on the day, with the donation matched, ensuring $16,000 will go to support Australians with breast cancer. Seymour President, Peter Elliott, said the Club was once again blown away by the support shown by the community. “Sarah’s Day is a day everyone at our Club looks forward to. It’s a great chance to come together as a community and raise funds for an important cause,” he said. “We couldn’t be more grateful for the support provided by local businesses that donated prizes, and our incredible volunteers who organised the event. “Once again, Tatura Football Netball Club got behind the day in a big way, and we really value the bonds built with another fantastic Club. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone for making the day a success. We know these funds will make a big difference for people in some of their most difficult moments.”
