The Seymour Football Netball Club held its Presentation Night at Kings Park on Thursday September 26, celebrating the achievements of players and volunteers throughout the 2024 Goulburn Valley League (GVL) season. Club President Gerard O’Sullivan congratulated players for their on-field achievements during the season. “We had all our senior netball teams and two of our football teams playing finals which is a fantastic achievement,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Our B Reserve girls were undoubtedly the stars of the show, going through the season undefeated and claiming the premiership. “There are some really talented young players coming up through both the football and netball and we can’t wait to watch their progress over the coming years. Mr O’Sullivan also thanked volunteers who make every training session, matchday and season possible. “While we are incredibly proud of our players, in many ways presentation night is also about the amazing volunteers who keep our club running,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “We were also able to welcome a new qualified Life Member as a result of Ellie Fuhrmeister reaching 200 A Grade games during the season which is a fantastic achievement.” The Senior Best & Fairest Award has been renamed the Gary Brown Medal, recognising Mr Brown’s decades of service to the SFNC as Club Secretary with Nathan Beattie the inaugural winner. “It was fantastic to be able to award the Gary Brown Medal for the very first time with Nathan Beattie a deserving winner after an incredible season,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Gary dedicated a huge amount of his life to our club and it’s only fitting to have the Senior Best and Fairest now bear his name. “Once again, congratulations to all our award winner and we look forward to coming back even better in 2025.” A full list of award winners can be found below. GRAND FINAL - O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 43 v Rochester 30 The Lions were a few goals down early before Toni Bootland stepped on and took control in defence, taking crucial intercepts that allowed the Lions to go into the break at quarter time ahead. All the girls gave 100 per cent throughout the game with strong leads and accurate passing into Shona Gesler and Mia Allen in the ring. Toni Bootland, Sarah Waite and Sophie Munro worked so hard in the defensive end, constantly putting pressure on the Rochester goalers. Grace Barry, Casey Drummond and Layne Lewis carried the ball down the court with efficiency, controlling the mid court. The Lions had the game under control at three quarter time and enjoyed the last quarter, knowing they’d finish the day with medals around their necks. Congratulations to Courtney Aldous on coaching an incredible undefeated season and well done to Toni Bootland who was adjudged Best on Court by the umpires. What a team and what a season!

PRELIMINARY FINAL - O'Keefe's IGA Seymour Reserves Seymour 5.9.39 v Rochester 9.10.64 The Lions headed up the GV to take on Rochester for a spot in the Grand Final and were greeted by typically windy conditions at Deakin Reserve. The beginning of the first quarter saw the Lions dominate play, however they were unable to apply scoreboard pressure before Rochester finished the term strongly. In the second term the boys were able to get back into the game with Dale Short kicking a pearler of a goal from long range. The third quarter broke the Lions with Rochester kicking three goals to one, allowing them to head into the last with a lead that proved too much for the boys to claw back. Tayte Lewis showed his usual determination around the contest and Jonty Mann played his best game of the season. The backline found themselves under heavy pressure throughout the game with Clayton Salmon and Jack Glen tireless all day. Jaxon Lantzke stood tall once again around the contest, but it wasn’t enough to get the Lions over the line. Another fantastic season from the Reserves with a huge thanks due to Dundo and Pete Elliott for their work throughout the season, alongside Team Manager Michael Salmon and a great group of volunteers. Best: T Lewis, C Salmon, J Mann, J Glen, J Lantzke Goals: J Morgan 2, D Short 2, F Rutherford 1

The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) has announced its A Grade netball coach and Senior Coaches for the 2025 GVL season. Current Senior Coach Ben Davey has recommitted to the role for another season and will be joined by Jack Murphy who has made the step up from Senior Assistant Coach to Senior Co-Coach. The duo will continue to draw on their extensive football experience—Davey with his senior GVL premierships and time in North Melbourne’s coaching ranks, and Murphy with his considerable career in the VFL. SFNC President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was thrilled to reappoint Davey and Murphy for the 2025 season. “Ben has been huge for our club since returning as Senior Coach and we’re so lucky to have a coach of his knowledge, experience and passion at The Den,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Murph has put in an incredible amount of work as a Senior Assistant Coach over the past couple of seasons and his promotion reflects his dedication to the Lions. “We have full confidence in both Ben and Murph and look forward to a successful 2025 with them in charge of a fantastic group of young footballers.” Following Ellie Fuhrmeister’s recent resignation, the SFNC has appointed A Grade star Casey Adamson as the new A Grade coach. “Casey has been a superstar player for a long time at the Lions and is eager to take on the coaching role,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “She’s played professional netball and knows exactly what it takes to taste success in September. “To be able to appoint such a quality netballer as A Grade coach from within our ranks is fantastic for the club.”

The Seymour Lions’ Head Netball Coach Ellie Fuhrmeister has announced that she will step down from the role following the conclusion of the 2024 GVL season. Fuhrmeister took the reins in 2022, overseeing an unprecedented clean sweep of all three senior netball premierships that year. Over her three seasons as Head Coach, all Seymour senior teams have gone deep in September with the club firmly established as one of the powerhouses of the netball competition. While she took over as Head Coach in 2022, Fuhrmeister has experienced coaching every grade at the club from Under 15s to A Grade, played in three A Grade Premierships, including one as captain, and represented the GVL in Interleague netball over three seasons. Fuhrmeister’s achievements as both a coach and a player have her sitting comfortably among the Lions’ finest netballers. While she’s stepping back from coaching, Fuhrmeister remains committed to the club as a player for the 2025 season, hoping the Lions can once again feature at the business end of the season across all grades. SFNC Statement: Ellie has been a crucial part of our club as a player and coach over a long period of time and we’re incredibly grateful for the work she’s put in. Our club’s netball program has gone from strength to strength under Ellie’s leadership and as a coach she leaves a lasting legacy on our club. Since Ellie’s A Grade debut in 2013 she’s been a crucial member of our club both on and off field and we’re proud to call her a Lion. The three senior netball premierships the Lions took home in 2022 stand alone as the greatest netball achievement in GVL history. Ellie is a Lion great through and through and we can’t wait to see her back on court in a playing role next season.”

While the boys improved their effort and attack on the footy in the second term, they were unable to hit the scoreboard themselves. Down back, Clayton Salmon and Jack Davey fought hard all day under enormous pressure, while Tayte Lewis and Max McLean didn’t back down all day. The boys came out of the blocks on fire kicking three first term goals, but this effort was replicated by Euroa in the second term to have the game in the balance. The third quarter was when the Lions stamped their authority on the game, kicking four goals and gaining back the lead at the final break. Euroa got within a kick in the last before the Lions were able to regain composure. QUALIFYING FINAL - O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 37 v Rochester 31 It was a tough start for the Lions who went into quarter time five goals down but after a switch up in attack they were able to get their noses in front by a goal at half time. Sophie Munro and Sarah Waite communicated and moved will within the ring to create the crucial turnovers the Lions needed. Mia Allen and Shona Gesler clocked the attacking end and found their feet under the ring. Grace Barry and Casey Drummond fed the ball in well all day with strong leads through the midcourt. Club Dinner Award: Mia Allen ELIMINATION FINAL - Seymour Hardware Group B GRADE Seymour 47 v Shepparton 54 The Lions got off to a strong start in a game that was goal for goal early on. Seymour presented with strong pressure from the start from defenders and the midcourt. Midcourt changes allowed the Lions to settle and take control leading into half time. Shepparton ramped up the pressure after the main break and were able to get in front. Seymour fought hard but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough in the end. Well done to Kelly and the B Grade girls on another fantastic season. ELIMINATION FINAL - Beer Auto Group Seymour A GRADE Seymour 34 v Echuca 41 The A Grade girls fought valiantly in their Elimination Final against Echuca but sadly their season has come to an end. The Bombers came out of the blocks firing, with the Lions facing a nine goal deficit at half time and looking all but out of the game. However, the girls fought back fantastically in the third quarter, reducing Echuca’s lead to just three goals at the final break. In the end the Bombers were able to hold the Lions at bay and finish the day victorious. Eleisha Saunders put in a best on court performance for the Lions, working tirelessly through the midcourt, providing pressure and run in both directions. Ruby Martin showed her versatility, switching to the attacking end in the back half of the game, playing a crucial role in the Lions third quarter come back. Sarah Szczykulski rounded out the best in a typically determined performance in defence. The girls have done our club proud yet again, consistently featuring at the business end of the year. Well done on a great season. Caffeine Bistro Award: Eleisha Saunders

While it was Joel Durham’s milestone game, his great mate Julian Morgan stole the show with an incredible display of forward craft, bagging 14 goals to put himself ahead of the pack in the league goal kicking table. It was a performance with plenty of highlights in front of goal, one on one wins and even some strong contested marking. A performance for the ages. While Jules was no doubt the star of the show, work further up the field allowed him to make the most of his opportunities. Tayte Lewis and Ian Porter stood up in the midfield, while Sam Fuhrmeister provided characteristic run and carry. The Under 18s boys did themselves proud with Joel Ryan kicking two goals and both Harry Martin and Lachlan Thomas among the team’s best. The 102 point win sees the Lions finish in fifth place, ready to make a splash in September. Best: J Morgan, T Lewis, S Fuhrmeister, I Porter, H Martin Goals: J Morgan 14, A Elliott 3, J Ryan 2, W Laird Seymour Club Seniors Seymour 20.11.131 v Mooroopna 6.11.47 The Lions came out ready to play in their final outing of the season, with conditions perfect for footy. The boys were on the back foot early but then took control of the game ten minutes into the first quarter and never looked back, putting nine goals on the board including a long bomb from Sam Thomson. From here it was all Seymour despite a slower second quarter. The game was put to bed in the third as Mooroopna failed to kick a goal while the Lions piled on six of their own. It was a similar story up forward with Riley Mason proving way too good for any opponent, booting eight goals and dominating the game. Around the clearances the Cats had no answer for Tom Maloney, who kicked two classy goals to go with plenty of footy, well supported by his midfield partners in Nathan Beattie, Jack Murphy and Nic Quigg who returned home to don the jumper again. A great performance to finish the year. Sophie Munro and Paige Cooper put up a great fight to create pressure and turnovers and peg back any goals they could. Sophie Allen, Chloe Butterworth, Sophie Butterworth and Grace Le Deux created drive in attack and combined well in the circle. Despite the drive and determination they were outplayed on the day. O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 46 v Kyabram 28 The girls put together a strong first quarter, picking up on the game plan of Kyabram and being able to take control of the ball. The first quarter saw plenty of scrappy footy with the ground very slippery underfoot. It wasn’t until the third quarter that the game began to open up, setting up a bumper final term with the teams neck and neck at the final break. The Lions kicked a couple of quick goals to begin the last quarter but were slowly pulled back by the Bombers who were able to kick a goal in the last few minutes to sneak away with a one point win. The Lions were very unlucky to go down after dominating play for much of the game. Sam Thomson was fantastic on his return from injury, with Ishaq Ali and Tayte Lewis putting their heads over the footy all day. Sam Fuhrmeister keeps on putting his best foot forward and Jaxon Lantzke has been a real boost for the side since his return. The opening term proved the difference with the Bombers coming out of the blocks strongly, booting seven first quarter goals to take a 35-point lead into the first break. The second quarter saw a more even contest with the Lions able to pull the lead back before launching an assault in the third, piling on five goals to be just five points behind at the final break. The Bombers were able to hold the fast-finishing Lions at bay, holding onto their lead and picking up a 16 point win. Nathan Beattie and Tom Maloney played fantastic games around the contest while providing plenty of spread around the ground. Riley Mason again showed his versatility across multiple positions. Down back, Tom Martin worked tirelessly all day with typical determination, well supported by Ben Cooney who even snuck forward for a goal. Charlie Carmichael was best on ground, stepping up from the Under 18s for his first game of Reserves footy, finding plenty of the ball and ferociously attacking the contest. The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) has announced the first of its re-signings for the 2025 season with Huw Jones, Nathan Beattie and Riley Mason all recommitting to the Club for another year. All three players have passed the 50 Senior game milestone over the past few months and have taken their games to a new level. While Huw Jones will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a knee reconstruction, Mason and Beattie are showing no signs of slowing down. Mason currently sits second in the Goulburn Valley League (GVL) goal kicking charts, while Nathan Beattie is one of the most dominant midfielders in the competition, averaging close to 35 possessions a game. Seymour Lions Football Manager Mitch Itter said the news was a major boost for the Club heading into the back end of the season. “All these players are absolutely essential to the future of our club with plenty of great footy ahead of them,” Mr Itter said. “Huw, Riley and Nathan have all stepped up again this season with a few injuries and departures and established themselves as top grade players. “Riley is proving unstoppable up forward and gives us so much flexibility around the ground and Nathan has dominated the midfield battle week in, week out. “Unfortunately, Huw is recovering now from a knee reconstruction and we wish him all the best with his recovery over the next 12 months. “We’re looking forward to announcing more re-signings over the course of this season as we look to build into a big 2025. “We’ve been able to get lots of senior footy into our next generation of stars this year which will hold us in good shape for the years ahead.”

Tickets are now available online for ‘Sarah’s Day’, the Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) annual Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) fundraiser to be held on July 20. The event was a resounding success last season with the SFNC donating $13,000 to the BCNA. The day will kick off from 2pm in the SFNC clubrooms, with netball matches finishing prior to the event and senior football played in the background. Tickets are $20, which includes high tea and a glass of prosecco on arrival with drinks at bar prices and a raffle on the day. SFNC President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was delighted to be holding the annual fundraiser for the fifth time. “Sarah’s Day is a huge day for our club and the community more broadly, where we pay support all those who have been impacted by breast cancer, including Sarah Locke who tragically passed away two years ago,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Last year we were taken aback by the amazing support of the community for this event with $13,000 raised for Breast Cancer Network Australia. “We’re very grateful for the support provided by Tatura Football Netball Club who have accommodated this event again and played a huge part in its success last season. “We all know sporting clubs are about much more than what happens on the field or court and this is just another example of that.” “I encourage everyone to purchase a ticket and a scarf online or donate if possible and help us make a tangible difference.” Tickets can be purchased online here: https://www.trybooking.com/CTGUU

2024 GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League Hall of Fame Inductee Matthew O’Sullivan When looking through the list of top footballers in the GVL you come across many who not only succeed at football, but excel in other sports as well. The GVL now inducts such a person who would have to be regarded as the best all round sportsman at Seymour Football Netball Club Matthew O’Sullivan is a part of a well-known Seymour family who have produced top sports performers as well as taking on important roles as administrators and supporters. Matts football life began as many Seymour players have, as a junior at St. Marys junior football club in the under 10s. After juniors, he was elevated into the Seymour 3rds in 1983 where he played under the coaching of Robin Gardener. He took to the game with gusto and it was no surprise when he became a member of his beloved Seymour Lions senior team in 1985 after playing 6 reserves games. Peter Gorski was the coach. Matt relished the opportunity to play with top players and in his second season in 1986 he won the Seymour Best player award. By 1987 he was the senior captain of the Lions. He settled in to the team as a top player and guided the Lions during their team building towards the ultimate prize which came in 1991 when the Lions defeated Tongala by 9 points to become GVL premiers. Then there were some lean years during the nineties when Matt played his heart out in a club which was struggling to play finals. He was selected to represent the League on 7 occasions and loved the opportunity to be involved in Interleague games and enjoyed wearing the purple and gold GVL jumper. He appreciated the friends he made and the opportunity to play with top players in the League. He also won the Shepparton News Award selected by the News football writers. He took the opportunity to accept a coaching role with the Broadford club in 1995 & 6 then returned to the Lion’s Den. At the end of the nineties, he decided to retire on 199 games. However, he was talked into returning to play 2 years later to notch up his 200th game. This gave him a qualified Life membership of the GVL to add to his Life membership of Seymour. In 2000 he was named in the Seymour Team of the century. Following his playing days, he remained highly involved with the club. He was president of Seymour in 2001 and 2002 and then was a selector on the match committee for the premiership years of 2005 & 6. Matt also supported junior football as coach of St. Marys under 16s from 2009 – 2011 and moved on to coach the Seymour 3rds from 2012 to 2014 which was a grand final year. He coached the Reserves in 2016 & 17 and also spent more time on the match committee. What a wonderful commitment to Seymour. In the year 2017 only 2 players in the Seymour senior team had not been coached by Matthew. It is also important to note that Matt did not receive any money from the Seymour club either as a player, an administrator or a coach. His commitment was voluntary. As mentioned, Matt has also excelled in other sports. He was amongst the best performers in the Seymour Cricket Association, he is a champion lawn bowler, and plays golf off scratch. With that wonderful sporting record and an example of what a dedicated player can do for a club he loves. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Matthew O’Sullivan as a member of the GVL Hall of Fame.

2024 GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League Hall of Fame Inductee Shane Schottner The Seymour Football Netball Club added great strength to the GVL when it transferred from the Waranga North East League in 1976. The club included many top performers who would play a role in premierships and country championship games. This year we will induct a player who epitomises other Seymour players who have excelled in GVL football. Shane Schottner was a local Seymour boy who idolised the Lions players when he joined the club as a junior. He would progress through the under 13s, under 15s and under 16s, loving the game and eventually would hold the record for the most senior games as long serving player. After junior football he burst into the Seymour 3rds in 1994 under Morrison Medal winning coach John Solomon. Shane showed his ability and polled well in best player awards. In his second year 1995 he played so well early in the season that the club selectors promoted him to a senior player during the season. He had arrived as a senior Lion and soon showed why he had been selected. In recognising his talent, the Lions played him in the full back position in his first year. He showed great promise and played the next two years at full back. Seymour was team building at that time but needed the skills of Shane to hold down major positions. After a few years of playing down back he was moved into the ruck position where he played most of his football. The GVL selectors were so impressed with his ability that they asked him to represent the League in the Country Championship games. Shane loved representative football and made himself available whenever called upon. He wore the purple and gold colours with distinction In 8 games, including State championship teams in 2005 and 2008. He was also vice-captain of the GVL. Shane was called upon to coach the Lions in 2003. Shane was playing great football and became the 4th player in the club’s history to win the Morrison Medal as the best player in the League in 2004. The Lions supporters were so proud of him. In his first 160 games Shane had not played in a final’s series. However, all that was to change when he was involved in a golden era as Seymour won three GVL senior grand finals in 3 years 2005, 2006 and 2007 as well as being runners up in 2008. Shane was a star who played an important part in that success. Away from football he was a busy teacher, firstly at Seymour then at Assumption in Kilmore before moving on to St Kevin's College in Melbourne. This meant that he trained one night per week with Seymour players in Melbourne then attended training on Thursday evenings at Seymour. Shane loved the Seymour club so much that he was prepared to travel for eighteen of his twenty years with the Lions. His wonderful career saw him play 319 games with the Seymour, club which makes him the games record holder. He played in 6 grand finals, 5 in the seniors and one in the thirds. Shane was captain of the Seymour senior team for eleven years. He was honoured with life membership of Seymour and the GVL. Shane is so proud of being a one club player throughout his career. He is a well-respected person who was loved by the Seymour fans. The GVL is delighted to induct Shane Schottner into the GVL Hall of Fame.

The Seymour Lions were well represented in Interleague football across the weekend, representing the Goulburn Valley League (GVL) against the Ovens & Murray (O&M) Football League. Netball and football action took place at Deakin Reserve in Shepparton with the Lions flag flown early in the day by Sophie Butterworth in the Under 15s netball, coached by Seymour’s Ellie Fuhrmeister and Courtney Aldous. While the junior netball fell short in their clash against the O&M, the senior football and netball saw some great results for the GVL. The netballers retained their title against the O&M with Ellie Fuhrmeister and Sarah Szczykulski dominating at either end of the court in a five-goal win. Riley Mason and Nathan Beattie helped guide the GVL football team to its first win over the O&M in well over a decade, with Mason kicking two goals and Beattie prominent through the middle. Seymour Lions President Gerard O’Sullivan congratulated the players on their performances while representing the club with distinction. “It’s a great honour to be selected in an Interleague team and we encourage our players to grab this opportunity with both hands whenever it arises,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “The O&M is a premier country competition and to be able to test your skills against some of the top country footballers and netballers only helps our players when they return to club level. “We’re incredibly proud of all our players and coaches who were involved in the action for the GVL. “They all took great pride in representing our club at this level and spoke highly of the experience. “A special thanks to our legendary trainer Tony Waite for volunteering his services with the footballers. He’s a Life Member of our club and someone we’re so proud to have at The Den. “We’re looking forward to getting back into club footy and netball this Saturday at home against Rochester.”

Seymour is buzzing with the return of AFL legend David Mundy locked in for this Saturday’s match at Kings Park. Mundy, originally recruited from the Seymour Lions in 2003, went on to have one of the most decorated careers in the history of AFL football, holding Fremantle’s all time games record, while only eight players have ever played more games at the highest level. This longevity sits alongside several personal honours, including an All-Australian selection, a Best & Fairest and 120 Brownlow Medal votes. Mundy’s return to Goulburn Valley League (GVL) football against Kyabram this Saturday will mark a big moment for the league with Mundy the most experienced AFL player ever to put the boots on in the competition. Seymour Lions President, Gerard O’Sullivan, said the club was looking forward to a bumper crowd to welcome Mundy home. “This is about as big as it gets in country footy and the whole town is talking about Mundy’s return to The Den,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “You very rarely see players of Dave’s calibre come back and play country footy and to have someone do it for their home club is even rarer. “He’s only one full season out of the AFL so we have no doubt he’ll be in great condition and put on a show for the home crowd.” The Seniors game against Kyabram will kick off at 2pm this Saturday, May 11. “We’re encouraging everyone to get in the gates early and enjoy some of the other action on the day,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “We’ve got netball on from 9 in the morning and footy on from 10 so it’s a great chance to enjoy a great day of action in a welcoming and family friendly environment. “It will be a pretty jam-packed Kings Park over the day so don’t miss the chance to be involved in a great day for country footy. “We look forward to hosting Dave, his family and a bumper crowd through the gates on Saturday.”

Best: W Laird, S McMaster, J Davey, I Ali, H Palmer Goals: J Morgan 2, D Saunders 1, D Short 1, J Nai 1, R Graham 1 Seymour Club Seniors Seymour 21.15.140 - Benalla 13.7.85 The Seniors have broken through for their first win after the season after a big second half against Benalla to record a nine goal win. The Lions got off to a great start in the first quarter with a snap from big man Todd Lawrence getting the boys up and about. Benalla bounced back in the second quarter to make it anyone’s game at half time. A seven goal third term and eight goal final quarter saw the Lions take the game away and record a thumping victory. Jack Murphy and Nathan Beattie continued to dominate in the midfield with Nugget finding plenty of ball around the ground and Murph picking up disposals at will. Tayte Lewis showed trademark determination in the centre, always hard at the footy and tackling with great skill and effort. While the defensive end held up incredibly well it was the forwards who put together some big days. Nathan Fowler presented strongly throughout the day with some great contested marking in the forward 50 and four goals. The star of the show was undoubtedly Riley Mason who dominated the game, with Benalla unable to match his skill in one on one situations or when the ball hit the ground. Often left one on one as the deepest forward, Riley took full advantage, booting eight goals in an awesome display. The boys enjoyed a great feed at the Seymour Club following the game and are stoked to be lacing up the boots with Dave Mundy this weekend. Best: R Mason, J Murphy, N Fowler, N Beattie, T Lewis Goals: R Mason 8, N Fowler 4, J Murphy 2, T Lawrence 2, L Hockley 1, R Schraven 1, C Thomson 1, S Thomson 1, C Lubeck 1

Including You UNDER 15s Seymour 8 - Bears 63 The Under 15s kicked off the action yesterday against a very strong and well drilled Bears team. Kyra Pearce stood up and showed determination and strength throughout the game to earn best on court honours. She was supported by Matilda Barry and Sophie Butterworth across the court. It was a tough day but on to next week where the girls will be looking to put their best foot forward against Benalla. Inari Sushi Award: Kyra Pearce Trawool Shed - Cafe, Cottages & Restaurant UNDER 17s Seymour 31 - Bears 64 The Under 17s weren’t quite able to put together the four quarter performance to match the Shepp Bears, however Ella Zotti, Remy Hare, Ella Reynolds and Taylah Mason demonstrated determination and a great connection in the mid court. Sophie Munro and Paige Cooper put up a fight to create turnovers and peg back as many goals as they could. Sophie Allen, Grace Le Deux and Chloe Butterworth provided great drive in attack and combined well in the goal circle. Despite a great effort from the girls they were outplayed by a better side on the day. O’Sullivan Builders Awards: Taylah Mason O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 37 - Bears 36 The B Reserve had a thrilling win against Shepp in a goal for goal encounter, getting up by one. Ruby Trimble and Sarah Waite constantly placed the Bears’ under pressure in the defensive end with Ruby working hard to pressure the centre pass. Shona Gesler put together a great performance, presenting well in the goals and directing the attacking end. The Lions showed great intensity from the start with precision passing to the goalers allowing Ashlyn Webster and Lyndel Feery to capitalise on hard work in the midcourt. The strong defensive effort of the midcourt allowed for many crucial turnovers. Great drive from Lucy Zotti and Andy McKenzie gave Lyndel and Renee Sari many options to score. It was a great team performance with the Lions stepping up when under pressure. 96 Cafe & Bulk Foods Award: Toni Bootland Club Dinner Award: Lyndel Feery Beer Auto Group Seymour A GRADE Seymour 51 - Bears 66 The Lions were right in the contest at three quarter time but a great performance by the Bears in the last saw the A Grade go down. Rosie O’Sullivan and Ellie Fuhrmeister controlled the mid court and attacking end with strong pressure off the line. Georgie Engel and Courtney Aldous were active on their feed, resulting in important turnovers in the defensive end. Sophie Rutherford combined with the goalers to keep on top of the defenders. Lucy Zotti came into the game and took control of WD, resulting in many key intercepts. Off to Benalla next week to try and get back on the winner’s list. Rooks Award: Courtney Aldous

Including You UNDER 15s Seymour 15 - Swans 56 The Shepparton Swans are always a well-oiled outfit, and it proved to be a tough start to the day for the Lions, who were forced to play catch up after a big first quarter. Eden Webster was the stand-out player on the court, leading from the back with strong defensive pressure in the ring and great transition out of defence. Sophie Butterworth showed her versatility, playing at both ends of the court, and used her speed and height to feed the ball to Isabel and Ivy. While it was a tough encounter for the Lions, there will be plenty of lessons learnt and some great opportunities to work on a better performance next week against the Bears. Club Dinner Award: Eden Webster Trawool Shed - Cafe, Cottages & Restaurant UNDER 17s Seymour 24 - Swans 62 The Lions got out of the blocks quickly with a great first quarter and silky passages of play, and they were right in the game at quarter time. Unfortunately, a 20-goal second quarter from the Swans put Seymour on the back foot and in a difficult position to recover from. The midcourters came back after halftime with plenty of drive, supported by a defensive team that worked well under pressure. The last quarter saw the Lions bring a stronger overall team effort, with the goalers working tirelessly to make the most of their opportunities. O’Sullivan Builders Award: Taylah Mason O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 44 - Swans 31 The O’Sullivan Builders B Reserve team continued its strong form with a solid 13 goal win over the Swans. Toni Bootland and Sarah Waite held the defensive end of the court together, combing well to delay the movement of the Swans’ goalers. Ruby Trimble was a strong presence off the line with active feet creating major turnovers and scoring opportunities. Grace Barry put together a best-on-court performance, carrying the ball continuously down the court, where Mariah Baumann and Shona Gesler finished the job. Rooks Pizza & Diner Award: Grace Barry Inari Sushi Award: Ruby Trimble Seymour Hardware Group B GRADE Seymour 55 - Swans 46 Another great win on Saturday for the Seymour Hardware Group B Grade against the Swans. After a tight first half the Lions put on a show in the second half to take the game away from the Swans, highlighted by an 18 goal final term. The Lions were defensively strong all day, providing strong pressure which allowed for turnovers to be capitalised upon by the goalers. Fast, hard and direct drives from the midcouters ensured the Lions got over the line, led by a best on court performance from Lucy Zotti. Whistle Award: Lucy Zotti Beer Auto Group Seymour A GRADE Seymour 59 - Swans 48 The Beer Auto Group Seymour A Grade is on the winner’s list after a close loss to Tatura last week. The Lions flew out of the blocks with a 19 goal first term, with Ally Black and Ellie Fuhremister controlling the attacking end of the court to put the pressure on the Swans. Liv Barry showed determination at every contest, rejecting multiple passes, leading to positive turnovers and scoring opportunities. It was fantastic to see Sarah Szczykulski back on the court, combining with Ruby Martin to maintain strong defensive pressure despite a surge in the third quarter from the Swans. Eleisha Saunders showed great composure across the court in her first game at the club. Club Canteen Award: Sophie Rutherford

Janelle Puppa Real Estate UNDER 18s Seymour 7.3.45 v Swans 12.17.89 Our Janelle Puppa Real Estate Under 18s put in a big effort against a highly skilled Shepparton Swans outfit, who proved too strong despite plenty of fight from the boys. Rory Kennedy was dominant through the middle, driving the ball forward, and managed 3 goals himself. Tarkyn Dundon was a brick wall in defence alongside Xavier Arandt for the first part of the game before he switched ends and became a strong presence up forward. Jack Kennedy’s intercept marking was great again - winning some big one on ones. Jarrah Younger provided great run on the wing to help support the defence, whilst also attacking the ball well. Best: R Kennedy, T Dundon, X Arandt, J Kennedy, J Younger Goals: R Kennedy 3, D Ornsby 1, H Lane 1, J Younger 1, X Arandt 1 Go Dynamic Group Award: Rory Kennedy O'Keefe's IGA Seymour Reserves Seymour 5.9.42 v Swans 2.5.17 The O'Keefe's IGA Seymour Reserves have put together back to back wins away from home to start the season. In a scrappy affair the Lions took control of the game in third quarter to put the game beyond the reach of the Swans. Tayte Lewis and Max McLean led the charge through the midfield with the Kelfit combo of Ian Porter and Cooper Lubeck making crucial contributions. Sam Thomson put together a great four quarter performance in just his second game out of Under 18s. A great effort to take away the points in what is always a tough contest against the Swans. Best: T Lewis, M McLean, C Lubeck, S Thomson, I Porter Goals: M Jones 2, T Lawrence 1, I Porter 1, T Lewis 1, H Palmer 1 Seymour Club Seniors Seymour 9.12.66 v Swans 12.12.84 It was a tough day out for the Seymour Club Seniors against the Shepp Swans yesterday. Nathan Fowler wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard on his return from injury, with the Lions putting together a solid first quarter. In the second, the Swans blew the game open, kicking six goals to Seymour’s one. While the second half saw an improved effort across the board, the Lions weren’t able to peg back the difference, going down by three goals. Riley Mason was again dominant up forward creating plenty of opportunities with Jack Murphy picking up plenty of the footy. Our focus is now on the Bears for our ANZAC clash at Kings Park on Saturday. We’re also wishing Tom Maloney a speedy recovery from a nasty elbow injury. David Mundy will return to where it all began, donning the Seymour Lions jumper on May 11 against Kyabram in a blockbuster Round 6 Goulburn Valley League clash. The Lions announced the signing of the 376 game Fremantle superstar in December last year, originally recruited from Seymour in 2003. Mundy boasts an illustrious CV, All Australian in 2015, Best & Fairest winner in 2010, Fremantle Captain in 2016, 120 Brownlow Medal votes and the ninth most AFL/VFL games in history. Seymour Lions President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was set for a huge day to welcome home the club’s finest player. “There’s been a massive buzz around the club since we announced Dave was returning to The Den and we’re stoked to have a date in the calendar for his homecoming,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Dave has been keen to do this for a while now and is looking forward to putting the Lions jumper on once again. “It will be an amazing day for the club, hopefully a big crowd and plenty of support for Dave and his family.” The Lions are working through the season fixture to lock in further games with Mundy. “This certainly isn’t a one-off and we’re probably looking at several games this season that line up with Dave’s other commitments,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “We’re hoping to be in a position in the coming weeks to announce a couple more appearances at Kings Park throughout the middle of the season. “Dave has really been driving this with us and it just goes to show what a quality person he is, looking to give back to his junior club and the Seymour community. “We can’t wait to welcome him and his family to Kings Park and see him put on a show for the Lions faithful.”
