The Seymour Lions have bolstered their senior football squad with several recruits committing to the club for the 2025 Goulburn Valley League season. Sam House joins the Den after multiple seasons with Hurstbridge in the Northern Football League and will bolster Seymour’s forward line. House signed with GWS’ VFL and previously represented the Northern Knights in the Coates Talent League. Joining House up forward is Cam Osmond, recruited from Lancefield/Assumption College with the ability to play a high or deep role within the forward line. Also bolstering the Lions’ key position stocks is Tom Gawthrop , a towering 196cm key position player from the Woodend Football Club following junior football at the Calder Cannons. Gawthrop is a versatile player, who can play across centre half back or present as a spearhead forward in front of goals. Another recruit with high level experience is Tom Jeffrey . A 186cm utility, Jeffrey has represented the Aspley Hornets in the NEAFL and the Brisbane Lions in the VFL. A recruit from closer to home is Lachy Beattie , brother of 2024 SFNC B&F winner Nathan, who is joining the Lions after a few dominant seasons with the Yea Tigers. Before that Lachy played across half back with the Whittlesea Eagles, becoming a key player within their back six. Finally, 2024 KDFL McNamara Medallist Rielly Old has been recruited from Nagambie. Rielly is a big-bodied midfielder who will add great versatility to the Lions midfield group this season. Lions’ Senior Co-Coach Jack Murphy said the club was excited about the prospects of the senior group in 2025. “We had a bit of a mixed season last year with injuries and some lapses in games which cost us a place in the top six,” Mr. Murphy said. “We’re pleased to have retained the majority of our squad from last season, and with a young list, there is still plenty of growth ahead. “Thanks to some injuries, we were able to blood a lot of Under-18s players in senior footy last year, and it will be pretty competitive for spots come the start of the season. “All our new recruits have great footballing experience and IQ and will add plenty to our senior squad. “We’re still working on a few players and hope to have some announcements in the month ahead. “We’re looking forward to getting through the rest of pre-season and putting our best foot forward in Round 1.”

The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) has announced its A Grade netball squad for the 2025 Goulburn Valley League (GVL) season. The Lions will be looking to once again challenge the best teams in September after being defeated by Echuca in an Elimination Final last year. In a massive boost for the Lions, star netballer Casey Adamson has been appointed playing Head Coach. Adamson, previously a professional netballer, will draw on her extensive experience which includes stints at the Collingwood Magpies in the Netball Super League and Boroondara Express in the Victorian Netball League. Adamson is looking forward to the return of netball on April 5 and her new coaching role. “We’ve got a great squad once again this season and we’re all eager for Round 1 to come around,” Ms Adamson said. “Last year was a bit disappointing, going out in an Elimination Final and I know the girls are eager to push deeper into finals this year. “I’m excited to step up into the Head Coach role and think I’ve got plenty to give to our entire netball department, from A Grade down to Under 15s. “Ellie Fuhrmeister has done a fantastic job over the past few seasons and it’s all about building on her work and seeing how far we can go this year.” The A Grade squad remains largely unchanged from last season, with Adamson returning from injury and Lucy Zotti making the step up as a full-time A Grade player. “Personally, I’m so excited to get back on the court with a very strong squad,” Ms Adamson said. “We’ve got fantastic players right across the court and amazing depth through our grades once again. “Lucy Zotti has been a consistent performer for a long time, no matter where she’s played, and her inclusion in the A Grade squad is a testament to the hard work she’s put in. “We kick off away in Round 1, but we can’t wait to return to Kings Park in Round 2 and take on the Swans at home.” 2025 A Grade Squad Casey Adamson (Coach) Olivia Barry Ally Black Bridie Cantwell Ellie Fuhrmeister Ruby Martin Rosie O’Sullivan Sarah Szczykulski Lucy Zotti

Peter Elliott has been announced as the new President of the Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC), taking the reins from Gerard O’Sullivan who stood down as the joint-longest serving President in SFNC history. Elliott had a distinguished career at Seymour as a key position player and was a member of the Lions’ 1991 Goulburn Valley League (GVL) Senior Premiership. His son Alex is also a current player with the club. As the GVL season approaches, Elliott said he was eager to get to work to ensure the Lions have another successful season. “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be involved at Seymour, with a great group of footballers, netballers and volunteers,” Mr Elliott said. “The last few seasons have seen some great results across all our grades, and we’re excited to see the growth in some of our younger players this season. “The club is in a great position at the moment and it’s a fantastic time to be involved in community sport. “I’d encourage anyone who wants to lend a hand to reach out and help the Lions in 2025. We’ve got plenty of roles that could do with some volunteer support, and I can guarantee you’ll get plenty out of your time at the club.” Elliott thanked Gerard O’Sullivan for his contribution to the SFNC across his two stints as President. “Being involved at an Executive level at a club is a very time-consuming role, and it would be impossible to quantify the time Gerard has put into the Seymour Lions,” Mr Elliott said. “He’s been a tireless volunteer as long as I can remember and a fantastic leader across his time as President. “Sandra and the entire O’Sullivan family have been fantastic volunteers, supporters and officials and deserve our thanks. “Local clubs are nothing without top quality volunteers and we’re all indebted to Gerard for his magnificent service.” The Seymour Lions will kick off their 2025 GVL campaign on April 5 away against Rochester before hosting the Swans in their first home game of the season on April 12. The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) has announced its A Grade netball coach and Senior Coaches for the 2025 GVL season. Current Senior Coach Ben Davey has recommitted to the role for another season and will be joined by Jack Murphy who has made the step up from Senior Assistant Coach to Senior Co-Coach. The duo will continue to draw on their extensive football experience—Davey with his senior GVL premierships and time in North Melbourne’s coaching ranks, and Murphy with his considerable career in the VFL. SFNC President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was thrilled to reappoint Davey and Murphy for the 2025 season. “Ben has been huge for our club since returning as Senior Coach and we’re so lucky to have a coach of his knowledge, experience and passion at The Den,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Murph has put in an incredible amount of work as a Senior Assistant Coach over the past couple of seasons and his promotion reflects his dedication to the Lions. “We have full confidence in both Ben and Murph and look forward to a successful 2025 with them in charge of a fantastic group of young footballers.” Following Ellie Fuhrmeister’s recent resignation, the SFNC has appointed A Grade star Casey Adamson as the new A Grade coach. “Casey has been a superstar player for a long time at the Lions and is eager to take on the coaching role,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “She’s played professional netball and knows exactly what it takes to taste success in September. “To be able to appoint such a quality netballer as A Grade coach from within our ranks is fantastic for the club.”

The Seymour Lions’ Head Netball Coach Ellie Fuhrmeister has announced that she will step down from the role following the conclusion of the 2024 GVL season. Fuhrmeister took the reins in 2022, overseeing an unprecedented clean sweep of all three senior netball premierships that year. Over her three seasons as Head Coach, all Seymour senior teams have gone deep in September with the club firmly established as one of the powerhouses of the netball competition. While she took over as Head Coach in 2022, Fuhrmeister has experienced coaching every grade at the club from Under 15s to A Grade, played in three A Grade Premierships, including one as captain, and represented the GVL in Interleague netball over three seasons. Fuhrmeister’s achievements as both a coach and a player have her sitting comfortably among the Lions’ finest netballers. While she’s stepping back from coaching, Fuhrmeister remains committed to the club as a player for the 2025 season, hoping the Lions can once again feature at the business end of the season across all grades. SFNC Statement: Ellie has been a crucial part of our club as a player and coach over a long period of time and we’re incredibly grateful for the work she’s put in. Our club’s netball program has gone from strength to strength under Ellie’s leadership and as a coach she leaves a lasting legacy on our club. Since Ellie’s A Grade debut in 2013 she’s been a crucial member of our club both on and off field and we’re proud to call her a Lion. The three senior netball premierships the Lions took home in 2022 stand alone as the greatest netball achievement in GVL history. Ellie is a Lion great through and through and we can’t wait to see her back on court in a playing role next season.”

The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) has announced the first of its re-signings for the 2025 season with Huw Jones, Nathan Beattie and Riley Mason all recommitting to the Club for another year. All three players have passed the 50 Senior game milestone over the past few months and have taken their games to a new level. While Huw Jones will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a knee reconstruction, Mason and Beattie are showing no signs of slowing down. Mason currently sits second in the Goulburn Valley League (GVL) goal kicking charts, while Nathan Beattie is one of the most dominant midfielders in the competition, averaging close to 35 possessions a game. Seymour Lions Football Manager Mitch Itter said the news was a major boost for the Club heading into the back end of the season. “All these players are absolutely essential to the future of our club with plenty of great footy ahead of them,” Mr Itter said. “Huw, Riley and Nathan have all stepped up again this season with a few injuries and departures and established themselves as top grade players. “Riley is proving unstoppable up forward and gives us so much flexibility around the ground and Nathan has dominated the midfield battle week in, week out. “Unfortunately, Huw is recovering now from a knee reconstruction and we wish him all the best with his recovery over the next 12 months. “We’re looking forward to announcing more re-signings over the course of this season as we look to build into a big 2025. “We’ve been able to get lots of senior footy into our next generation of stars this year which will hold us in good shape for the years ahead.”

SFNC President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was delighted to be holding the annual fundraiser for the fifth time. “Sarah’s Day is a huge day for our club and the community more broadly, where we pay support all those who have been impacted by breast cancer, including Sarah Locke who tragically passed away two years ago,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “Last year we were taken aback by the amazing support of the community for this event with $13,000 raised for Breast Cancer Network Australia. “We’re very grateful for the support provided by Tatura Football Netball Club who have accommodated this event again and played a huge part in its success last season. “We all know sporting clubs are about much more than what happens on the field or court and this is just another example of that.” “I encourage everyone to purchase a ticket and a scarf online or donate if possible and help us make a tangible difference.” Tickets can be purchased online here: https://www.trybooking.com/CTGUU

Following a scrappy first quarter the Lions put their foot on the gas in the second, kicking five goals to one and putting the game out of the Swans’ reach. Even more pleasing for Coach Nick Dundon was the ability of the Lions to keep the Swans scoreless after half time and to a single goal for the game. Max McLean and Clayton Salmon continued their strong form putting together consistent games in the trying conditions, with Salmon kicking a game high three goals. They were well supported by Sam Thomson and Ian Porter through the middle of the ground and Dale Short who provided a great target over the course of the match. The Lions will enjoy a week off before a huge game away against Echuca. Best: M McLean, C Salmon, S Thomson, I Porter, D Short Goals: C Salmon 3, J Morgan 2, M McLean 1, F Rutherford 1, O Lubeck 1, D Short 1, S McMaster 1, J Best 1 Seymour Club Seniors Seymour 9.8.62 v Swans 11.7.73 Following back to back wins, the Swans proved to be a more difficult test for the Lions in wet and freezing conditions that deteriorated as the game went on. The Lions came out of the blocks strongly, dominating the play but were unable to capitalise in the first quarter, kicking six behinds to hold a small lead at the first break. The second term saw freer flowing footy with the Lions managing to extend their lead before being pegged back in the second half of the quarter by the Swans. The third quarter was where the game was won by the Swans with five goals put on the board and a three goal lead at the final break, proving too much to overcome for the Lions. David Mundy and Nathan Beattie both racked up double figures in the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough to get the boys over the line, going down by 11 points, Tom Maloney yet again dominated the centre clearances, by far the best contested player on the ground with Riley Mason and Nathan Fowler showing their versatility up forward in trying conditions for the talls. Off to Echuca after a week off to take it up to the bench mark of the competition. Best: T Maloney, N Fowler, R Mason, D Mundy, J Murphy Goals: R Mason 3, N Fowler 2, O Munro 1, T Maloney 1, R Schraven 1

Including You UNDER 15s Seymour 23 v Swans 52 A cold and wet start to Round 11. A close first quarter saw the Lions in the game at the quarter time break but they were unable to sustain this effort across the full match. Charlotte Bradley stood up in defence, taking home the club award. She worked well with her mids and fellow goaler Sophie Butterworth who received the Rooks Award. While the girls couldn’t get the job done they’ll be looking to come out firing after a week off. Club Dinner Award: Charlotte Bradley Rooks Pizza Award: Sophie Butterworth Trawool Shed - Cafe, Cottages & Restaurant UNDER 17s Seymour 18 v Swans 53 Whilst we suffered a tough loss against a more determined Shepp Swans, there were many positives to be taken out of today’s match. Our Lions’ short passes in wet conditions into our attacking end, as well as our positive attitude in a difficult game shone through. For most of the game our passing was strong and our mid court pressure turned over quite a few intercepts. We were reliable in defence and our goalers worked hard to convert goals. Today’s game didn’t showcase our Under 17s talents but we know they will bounce back bigger and better. O’Sullivan Builders: Paige Cooper Canteen Award: Chloe Butterworth O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE Seymour 37 v Swans 13 A strong first quarter from the Lions with all girls playing hard one on one making strong front leads. Grace Barry played a great game in mid court, creating plenty of turnovers. Shona Gesler moved well around the goal ring. Casey Drummond and Layne Lewis carried the ball well down the court. Toni Bootland and Sarah Waite worked hard in defence to get plenty of rebounds. Whistle Award: Toni Bootland Seymour Hardware Group B GRADE Seymour 41 v Swans 45 The first quarter was incredibly even with both sides shooting 14 goals before the first break. Seymour continued to trust in their ability and put together a great second quarter to lead by seven at half time. Ash Webster was a pivotal player, shooting with precision. The wet weather changed the style of play, allowing the Swans to run away with a win. Sushi Award: Lucy Zotti Caffeine Bistro Award: Ashlyn Webster Beer Auto Group Seymour A GRADE Seymour 44 v Swans 33 The girls showed good connection through the court and strong links and leads. Ruby Martin and Sarah Szczykulski combined to apply plenty of pressure in the defensive end. The Lions broke the Swans in the second quarter, giving 100 per cent and not relinquishing the lead. Café 96 Award: Sarah Szczykulski

The Lions jumped out of the blocks but failed to put the Eagles away in the first half. In the third quarter it was a different story as Mansfield were kept scoreless and the Lions kicked eight second half goals. Jules Morgan continues to climb his way up the goal kicking charts with another four goals and was supported further up the ground by the hard work of Max McLean, Clayton Salmon, Cain Murray and Coach Nick Dundon. Nic Quigg donned the jumper for the first time the season after getting plenty of VFL games under his belt and showed his class across the day. The Lions got out of the blocks a little slowly with some inaccurate kicking putting pressure on the boys to come back after quarter time and put the Eagles on the back foot. The second quarter saw the Lions open up a lead with Mundy getting amongst the contest and Tom Maloney putting in plenty of work at the coalface. An even third quarter saw the game in the balance before the Lions kicked away in the last. Riley Mason played another dominant game, proving too much to handle for Mansfield’s defence, finishing with six goals. Back to back wins for the Seniors for the first time this season and they’ll be looking to keep the streak going against the Swans at home this week. Inari Sushi Award – Casey Drummond Seymour Hardware Group B GRADE Seymour 72 v Mansfield 31 The Lions got off to an exceptional start with Renee Sari shooting 12 from 14 in the first period to set the team up for a big score. The defensive duo of Madi Hager and Ash Webster were too tall for the Eagles, securing many rebounds. Hard drives from Andrea McKenzie and Lucy Zotti resulted in critical turnovers for the Lions. Opportunities arose for B Grade to use their bench to include Under 17s players Chloe and Sophie who well and truly held their own. Ash Webster showed great versatility at both ends of the court.
