It was a lovely day at Deakin Reserve and the girls tried their hearts out contesting the ball all the way down the court.

While the girls were able to generate plenty of turnovers, they weren’t able to capitalise on these.

Today’s award went to Georgia Hadisutanto for being able to dictate and delay her player’s movement down the court.

Ella Zotti set the pace in the game, chasing every loose ball and creating turnovers from the pressure she created. Ella was crucial in the game and played with great intensity.

Paige Cooper worked hard in the defensive circle, hunting down all the long balls and taking great, clean intercepts.

Sophie Butterworth shot 37 of 45 goals in today’s game. Her precision and accuracy was on point and she worked hard to get front position.

All the Lions worked well together and created pressure, causing some team turnovers. The girls are excited to bring the same energy into the next two games to secure a finals position.

United come out strong in the third to take the lead midway.

Seymour’s attackers and accurate passes into the ring with great shooting by Shona Gesler and Mia Allen helped Seymour get out to a five goal lead.

We struggled to connect in the first quarter but improved in the second half.

The Lions were able to gain a nice lead in each quarter of the game.

A strong point was the ability of the team to capitalise on early turnovers, taking the game on.

The mid court worked hard to get the ball to our shooters.

Well done to Ashlyn Webster on getting the award today and welcome back Madi Hager.

From the start of the game Bridie Cantwell and Sarah Szczykulski made United work overtime to get the ball to the circle.

Ally Black showed great vision in WA, with Ruby Martin and Ellie Fuhrmeister creating strong movements to get to goal.

A close second quarter brought the pressure with the Lions having to work strategically to hold the lead.

A really strong third quarter allowed the Lions to break away on the scoreboard to record a great win.

Seymour FNC News

By Mitch Itter June 22, 2026
The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) will celebrate a significant milestone this weekend, with Senior Co-Coach and Captain Jack Murphy set to play his 150th senior game for the Lions. Since making his senior debut in 2015, Murphy has established himself as one of the premier players in the Goulburn Valley League. Over the past decade, Murphy has built an outstanding football resume. A dual Senior Best & Fairest winner, GVL Interleague representative, League MVP and former Coburg VFL player, he has consistently performed at an elite level while representing the Lions with distinction. While his individual achievements are impressive, Murphy's influence extends far beyond the football field. Renowned for his professionalism, work ethic and commitment to the club, he has played a significant role in driving standards and helping develop the next generation of Lions players. Now serving as Senior Co-Coach, Murphy continues to lead from the front each week and remains one of the competition's most influential midfielders. SFNC President Peter Elliott said Murphy's contribution to the Lions over the past 11 seasons has been remarkable. “Murph has been an outstanding servant of our football club and thoroughly deserves this recognition,” Mr Elliott said. “His achievements on the field are exceptional, but it's the way he goes about it that sets him apart. “He's one of the hardest workers at the club, a fantastic leader and someone who is so passionate about the success of the Seymour Lions. “He's represented our club with distinction throughout his career and continues to set the standard both as a player and coach. “To reach 150 senior games is a fantastic achievement and one that both Murph and everyone associated with the club should be proud of. “We're incredibly fortunate to have had Murph at Seymour for so long and look forward to seeing him continue to make an impact in the years ahead.”
