The round one opener at Tatura gave us plenty of wet weather and a soaked court, leading to plenty of short balls. Sophie Butterwoth stood up in the attacking end, leading with strong drives and positive turn overs. Showing her versatility she flipped to the defensive end, ending with intercepts and rebounds. Ivy Watson and Ruby Fletcher followed with strong pressure across the court and helping in transition. Overall the wet weather ruled and we couldn’t get the job done. Lots of positives to take away from the game.

1st Quarter – Seymour showcased impressive skills and determination. Tatura came out strong, scoring eight goals, Seymour not to be outdone with four goals, keeping the game competitive.
2nd Quarter – 12 goal quarter from Seymour. The momentum clearly shifted in Seymour’s favour. Seymour players exhibited remarkable teamwork and defensive pressure.
3rd Quarter – Tatura managed to regain the lead late in the quarter, however Seymour continued to fight and show resilience and determination. Seymour’s court pressure was amazing with the midcourters working tirelessly to create many turnovers.
4th Quarter – What a quarter. Wonderful team effort resulting in a win.

The Lions put on a clinical performance to get the win in the B Reserves. Mia Allen was strong on the ball and provided plenty of movement in the ring alongside Toni Bootland in her first game for the club.
Ashlyn Webster combined well with Toni to ensure plenty of rebounds from the defensive end, well supported by Casey Drummond’s pressure to bring the ball into the goalers.

A great team effort for the win away from home. Fantastic fast drives from Madi Albers allowed the goalers to secure points. The defensive pressure from all players was outstanding.

It was always going to be a tough Round 1 match-up against the classy Tatura outfit and so it proved to be.
Courtney Aldous provided great pressure off the centre pass and through the defensive third.
Ally Black showed her class in her first game for the Lions, communicating and moving well with Ellie Fuhrmeister. Both girls benefited from great midcourt work from Rosie O’Sullivan and shot well.
Ruby Martin made a fantastic return at the other end of the court to where she last was at The Den.
In a close tussle, Tatura got out to a six-goal lead partway through the final quarter, which the Lions started to claw back through strong whole-court pressure before being beaten by the siren, coming with the Lions two goals down.
A great first up game from the girls.
