Seymour IGA gets behind the Lions again in 2024

The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) is pleased to announce Seymour IGA & Liquor as a major sponsor of the club again in 2024. The partnership will reach new heights this season, with Seymour IGA now the official naming rights partner of the SFNC Reserves team, who went through the 2023 Home and Away season undefeated.

Seymour IGA is part of the growing Reddrop Group that prides itself on delivering high-quality produce and customer service to the Seymour community, something the SFNC can attest to.

SFNC President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was proud to have the backing of Seymour IGA as a major sponsor.

“Seymour IGA are huge contributors to our local community and we’re delighted to have their support this season,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“No matter what time of the day, you’re always greeted with a smile and exceptional customer service.

“As an independent grocer that’s been operating in the Seymour community for generations, their values align strongly with ours at the Lions.

“A huge thank you to Bec, Dave and the team at Seymour IGA for their ongoing support.”

Seymour IGA Store Manager Rebecca Wintle wished the SFNC well for the season ahead.

“The Seymour Lions are a massive part of our town and we’re pleased to continue our strong backing of the club in 2024,” Ms Wintle said.

“In particular, we’re looking forward to putting our name to the Seymour Reserves who have gone deep in September for several seasons.

“We hope 2024 is another successful year for the club and a strong year for our community-focused partnership.”

Following a couple of large wins, the Lions came out determined to take it up to a strong Bears outfit. From the outset it was a tough tussle between the sides but the Lions were able to get the advantage in the first half before the Bears clawed back the lead in the third quarter. In a closely fought final quarter the Lions held on for a 14 point victory. Jack Radford returned in a best on ground performance to seal the league leading goalkicker award. Nick Dundon worked hard around the ground a kicked a fantastic goal from 50 on the run early in the game. Through the middle of the ground Nic Davey, Joel Badger and Joel Brooks were all influential in the final outcome. A great win before heading into a big September. It was a consistent four quarter performance from Seymour, keeping the Bears goalless in the second term to set the game up. Once again, Riley Mason led all comers with five goals up forward, with Darcy Giles and Ben McCarthy lively at his feet. Jack Peris was best on ground, providing plenty of dash around the ground while racking up possessions through the middle alongside Nathan Beattie, James Wooster and Dylan Cook. Australian Trenching & Excavations UNDER 15s Seymour 15 def by Bears 56 The scoreboard didn’t reflect the effort the girls put into today’s game. We had some great passages of play and worked hard in defence. Charlotte Bradley was accurate in the first half, supported by Matilda Barry, Sienna Lynch and Lily Tippett. Isabel Meller and Eden Webster created many turnovers throughout the game but unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard. Eva Hay battled all day, contesting and applying pressure over the ball. We have lots of positives to take away from the season with individual improvements across the court. Paige Cooper was yet again vital in our defensive end, stopping crucial goals and providing the Lions with plenty of opportunities to score. Seven first quarter goals set the game up for Seymour, doing well to keep Tatura scoreless for the entirety of the first half. Following the main break the Lions let their foot off the gas but were still able to emerge with a solid 106 point win ahead of a tough test against Shepp Bears coming this weekend. Taiten Thomas was a livewire up forward, taking some strong marks and combining well with Dale Short as both finished with four majors to their names. Joel Durham kept up his big effort in the ruck with another consistent performance, working with Curtis Powell and Cooper Lubeck through the middle of the ground. The win means the Lions will finish in fourth spot following the final game of the home and away season. Some inaccurate kicking in the first quarter saw the Lions fail to capitalise on all the play but they were able to make amends in the final three quarters of the game, kicking seven, five and seven goals to round out a great performance. Riley Mason showed yet again why he’s the best player in the competition with a dominant performance including nine goals. The tally could’ve been much higher if not for some unselfish play throughout the game. The midfield group dominated around stoppages with Nathan Beattie, Jack Peris and Jack Murphy all in the best alongside Dylan Cook who reinvented himself as a tap ruckman. Other highlights of the day included great debut performances from Jackson Mansfield and Ben McCarthy. Mansfield was a strong target up forward all day with three majors, while McCarthy was busy around the ground and managed to get a goal of his own on the board.
