Seymour Lions senior co-captain Lachy Waite has been appointed coach of the club’s Under 18s side for the 2024 Goulburn Valley League (GVL) season.
Waite is a Lion through and through, having racked up 82 senior games for the club and played his junior football at Seymour.
In addition to his Seymour football career, Waite has underage experience representing the GVL, Murray Bushrangers and Victoria Country and has been supporting the Seymour Under 18s off-field over the past two years.
Seymour Football Manager Mitch Itter said the club was looking forward to seeing Waite take the next step in his football journey.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Lachy coaching our thirds boys this season. He has a great relationship with the playing group and has played some really high-quality footy at a young age,” Mr Itter said.
“Lachy is a great person to have around the club and as the senior captain it’s fantastic to see him stepping up again this season.
“Clint Rose did a fantastic job last season and we’re excited to see further growth in our future senior footballers.
“Lachy will be supported by Chris Martin in an Assistant Coach role which is another super acquisition for the club.”
Lachy Waite is encouraging all prospective players to get in touch with pre-season set to commence for the Under 18’s on Wednesday 24 January.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the thirds this season. We’ve got some promising players coming through the ranks and it’ll be incredibly rewarding to support their development,” Mr Waite said.
“I’ll be continuing the welcoming and fun environment Clint has established in the Under 18s and pushing the boys to prepare themselves for senior football.
“Our senior side is massively geared towards local players and the thirds boys of today are our future champions.
“I’d encourage everyone looking to play a high standard of junior footy to come to training, get the feel of our fantastic club and get ready for a huge 2024 at Kings Park.”
